ABOUT THE PARURESIS TRAINING ACADEMY
From our own experience. Developed together.
The Paruresis Training Academy grew out of personal experience and years of living with paruresis. We develop structured training offerings that help you understand paruresis better and work on it at your own pace.
Developed by people who've lived it. Expert support. For everyday life.

Why I founded the
Paruresis Training Academy

BERND FUCHS · FOUNDER OF THE PARURESIS TRAINING ACADEMY · LIVED IT HIMSELF
At 17, I felt like the only person in the world who couldn't pee in certain situations. I didn't know of any community, had no clear guidance and didn't know who I could confide in. Instead, shame, avoidance and more and more planning around restrooms crept in.
Only later did I realize how many people experience the same thing and how little guidance there is for people with paruresis.
For many years I've been deeply involved with paruresis, sharing with others who've lived it and supporting people as they find their own way of dealing with it. Again and again I noticed what was missing: an accessible, structured path from first understanding to your own training. That's why the Paruresis Training Academy was created.
A common problem that hardly anyone talks about.
2,6 %
Prevalence of paruresis in a representative German sample.
At the same time, the topic is still little researched and heavily loaded with shame. That's why many people with paruresis live for years with avoidance, planning and restrictions before they even look for support.
That's exactly why the first step doesn't have to be big. Sometimes it starts with finally having a name for your problem. Finding an explanation that makes sense. Or being able to try something without first having to tell anyone.
That's exactly the start we want to make easier with the Paruresis Training Academy.
OUR MISSION
Paruresis should run less of your life.
We want to meet people where they are,
from first anonymous research to regular training.
Everyone should be able to find a realistic way to work on their paruresis, no matter where they live or whether they've told anyone about it yet.
Our method
Recognize, change, keep at it. In your everyday life and at your own pace.
01
Recognize patterns. Understand which thoughts, avoidance, safety behaviors and pressure of expectations are at work around your paruresis.
02
Have new experiences. Act differently step by step and try situations that were difficult before, without turning it into a performance test.
03
Keep at it. Repeat new behaviors, put setbacks in perspective and find your way back into training after harder phases.
04
Fits everyday life. Training is built into your life as efficiently as possible.
05
At your own pace. You decide how independently you want to work and when extra support makes sense for you.
Professionally supported

Johannes S. Lanzinger, M.Sc., clinical and health psychologist and founder of Phobius, provides professional support to the Paruresis Training Academy. His psychological perspective informs how we develop and frame our content and training approaches.
For this, the Paruresis Training Academy works with Phobius, the center for anxiety, panic and phobias.
Our values
What we stand for at the Paruresis Training Academy.
Honest. No promise of a cure. We don't promise quick or guaranteed results.
Start discreetly. You don't have to tell anyone about your paruresis to take your first steps.
Independence, not dependence. Our goal is for you to make progress on your own in the long run, not to need support forever.
